
Salma Hayek Pinault born Salma Valgarma Hayek-Jimenez (born September 2, 1966)[3][4][5] is a Mexican and American actress and film producer. She started her career in Mexico by playing a lead role in the television drama Teresa (1989-1991) as well as the romantic drama El Callejon de los Milagros (1995) and for which she was awarded an Ariel Award nomination. Her career quickly took off in Hollywood with roles in films like Desperado (1995), From Dusk till Dawn (1996), Wild Wild West (1999) as well as Dogma (1999). Hayek's role as Frida, the painter, in Frida (2002) the film that she also directed was what made Hayek the first Mexican actress to win the Academy Award [6]. The film also brought her a Golden Globe Award nomination, Screen Actors Guild Award nomination and British Academy Film Award nominations. Hayek continued to make films and acted in action-oriented pictures Once Upon a Time in Mexico in the following years.
